About ebikelaws.ca
ebikelaws.ca puts the e-bike rules for each Canadian province and territory in one place, in plain English, with a link to the source of every rule.
Who publishes it
ebikelaws.ca is published by Zeus Ebikes Inc., an online e-bike retailer at zeusebikes.ca. Zeus Ebikes has no retail showroom; its mailing address is in Toronto, Ontario (Zeus Ebikes contact information).
Zeus Ebikes sells e-bikes, so here is how we keep this guide neutral: it describes the law, not products. It doesn’t review products or say whether any particular model, including any sold by Zeus Ebikes, is legal where you ride. To check a bike, compare its specifications with your province’s rules here and with the official source.
For rules in a specific city, see our sister site, Zeus E-Bike Map: where you can ride, city by city.
How we research the rules
- Each province and territory has its own data file. We read official sources first: the statute or regulation (on CanLII or the government’s own site), the province’s transport ministry, and Transport Canada.
- News stories and cycling groups are only used to find the official source, never as the final word.
- Every rule records the source it comes from and the date we read it, shown as “checked” on the page.
- If we can’t find a rule in a source, we leave it blank instead of guessing. The page shows “Not stated in the law — see sources” and lists the gap under “What we couldn’t confirm”.
- We describe what the law says in plain English. We don’t give legal advice.
The full list of sources, grouped by province and territory, is on the sources page.
How we keep it up to date
When a law changes or we re-check a source, we update the data and the “last checked” date on the page. Each page shows when its sources were last checked, so you can see how fresh the information is.
